Complementary Therapies

Complementary therapies and healing can be of great support during your recovery process. What works is really a matter of trial and seeing what fits with your own lifestyle and beliefs. During my healing journey I found several key therapies that benefited me and I’ve outlined these below.

kinesiology

Kinesiology

There are many different kinesiology modalities but either Touch for Health Kinesiology or Health Kinesiology are a good place to start. Health Kinesiology rebalances your whole system to stimulate genuine healing on all levels – physical, mental and emotional. By tapping into your nervous system via muscle testing, you can gain knowledge about your energy system and what you personally need to heal. It can uncover what is weakening your body and helps to restore balance allowing your body to do what it natural does … heal. For me, this is the first port of call whenever I’m dealing with a health crisis.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese medicine has evolved over thousands of years and uses psychological and physical approaches such as acupuncture and tai chi along with herbal products to address health problems. This is also one of my key ‘go to’ therapies to readdress imbalances within the body and mind.

Caisse Immunotherapy

It combines the Essiac Herbal Remedy, Black Root Medicine, nutrition and key areas of our lives and tailored the treatment on that individual’s requirements and beliefs about life.

Western Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy)

Medical herbalists have diagnostic and clinical training at degree level and are able to make a primary diagnosis as well as prescribe and make plant-based medicine. Herbal medicine has been practised for centuries the world over and continues to be used because, quite simply, it works.

Dealing with life threatening issues like cancer are complex and require a deep examination of your health. A qualified herbalist are able to identify underlying issues from normal physiology and then work on bringing you back to normal health.

Advanced Phytotherapy or Endobiogenic Medicine is a systematic and scientific method of deep level holistic medicine and providing treatment with plant extracts, essential oils and supplements.

naturopathy

Naturopathy

Naturopathic medicine is a system that uses natural remedies to help the body to heal and encompasses a range of modalities to balance the body, mind and spirit. It involves a physical examination with blood pressure and pulse and some blood and lab work to plan out possible treatments with herbs, massage, acupuncture, exercise and nutritional counselling. Plans outline dietary and lifestyle suggestions as well as medicines and supplements. Then follow-up consultations to monitor progress and adjust the treatment plan if necessary.

Nutrition Coaching

A nutrition coach or nutrition advisor is a qualified practitioner who provides advice and guidance to individuals or groups on healthy eating and lifestyle choices regarding nutrition. This coaching can be offer 1-to-1, in small classes or seminar, educational outreach, information and online nutrition coaching and support.

They can support you on your healing journey to change your dietary habits and gain a better understanding of how food affects your body. Whether is overcoming disease, weight management or help with specific diets such as vegan, vegetarian or plan-based diets, they can support you with guidance, meal plans, recipes and tips on how to make positive changes long term.

Nutrition coaches work with you to facilitate healthy eating behaviours and empower you to take responsibility for your own health. They are trained in nutritional science and behaviour change strategies to mentor and guide you towards a healthier lifestyle.

homeopathy

Homeopathy

Homepathic medicine is a natural form of medicine that uses remedies made from substances designed to stimulate the body’s natural healing ability. Remedies are used by repeatedly diluting a succession of solutions and are made from natural substances such as plants and minerals, usually taken as a tablet but also available as liquids, powders or creams.

A homeopath works much like a conventional doctor but will be interested in you as an individual and the way symptoms affect you personally.

Flower Essences

Flower essences or therapy is an alternative medicine based on the concept that flowers have a healing vibrational energy. Liquids are infused with the flower’s energy and then provided as a remedy. Modern flower remedies were originally created by Edward Bach, a British physician in the 1930s. According to Bach, the energy of flowers can balance your emotions and bring about mental physical and spiritual wellness.

Today there are a wide range of flower remedies available the world over. Some are native to specific countries such as Australian Flower remedies and similar in the USA where species are native to those countries. Also, there are flower essences that focus on one particular type of flower such as orchids.

Flower remedies can help with a range of conditions including anxiety and pain, improve immunity, depression and various psychological disorders.

massage

Massage

There are many different types of massage from aromatherapy massage, Swedish, hot stone and Indian head massage, all of which are very relaxing, right through to reflexology, shiatsu and lymphatic drainage. These are more specific and address health and pain issues directly. When dealing with cancer it is critical to ensure you get your Oncologist’s permission and advice on what’s best for you, as there are concerns around some types of massage. Although overall it has shown good health and wellbeing benefits.
